Apple Turnovers

  • 2 Apples
  • 3 tbsp sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry (one box), thawed but cold
  • 1 egg, beaten for an egg wash

Peel and core the apples, and slice them into 1/2-inch slices. Toss with the sugar, flour, salt, and lemon. Cut circles the size of tea saucers out of each sheet of puff pastry, pressing scraps to fill in holes. You should have about 8 circles, depending on size.

Brush each circle with egg wash, then fill with apples and fold in half, pinching to seal. Cut three small slits in the top of each turnover, then brush the top with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. Serve warm
